Pitching Drills That Won’t Help!
February 3, 2014

This Ball Obeys My Every CommandPitchers ask me everyday how they can throw faster. Every pitcher would love to throw 90 + MPH one day; especially in High School.

There are a few pitchers in my area of Utah county that can consistently throw 90 MPH at that level, but most don’t until their college years. There are only a select few pitchers in High School (maybe 3-5) each year that can. However, more pitchers could hit mid 80’s in HS and have command of their pitches if they learned how to get the most out of their body.

So what is the secret to throwing faster?

Well, there is no secret. If you take a look at all of the power pitchers in the Major Leagues you will notice a lot of similarities in their mechanics. You may not see similarities in their “style” of throw, but their pitching mechanics are very similar.

Here is an article I want to refer you to today that will help you understand where pitching velocity comes from. It helps pitchers understand how they can throw faster using their entire body to throw the ball.

Power Pitching: ADD 5-10 MPH to Your Fastball

Pitching Velocity starts from the feet and ends at the fingertips. If pitchers don’t know how to create momentum with their legs and hips then they are truly missing out on major velocity gains.
