The Secret to Throwing Hard

Does you throw hard in the beginning of the season and begin to lose velocity as the season progresses?

Are you inconsistent throwing strikes?

Does your curveball work great one day and the ball squirts or hangs on you the next?

Do you throw hard but lack control of your pitches?

Many of your inconsistencies can be blamed on improper throwing mechanics and lack of proper training. [Read more...]

Pitching Mechanics Change: Major Velocity Gains!

What never seizes to amaze me (regardless of how many pitchers I have worked with over the years) are the small and simple mechanical changes a pitcher can make that can add so much pop to the ball.

I was working with a student two weeks ago who finally understood proper hip rotation and how the core plays a major role in velocity and arm health. Even though he had understood the concept for a few months, he finally learned to “feel” how to throw with his hip and core correctly.

After throwing just a couple fastballs correctly, he turned to me and said “holy cow, that changed my life.” I laughed, but at the same time it pumped me up. I told him how I appreciated the hard work he had put into pitching and how happy I was for him.

That’s what it’s all about.

The fact is, everyone can learn to throw with power by making small mechanical adjustments that don’t take years to learn. [Read more...]

Power Pitching: Add MPH to Your Pitches

One of the questions I get most often when I begin teaching a new student is, how do I throw faster?

Throwing fast definitely has its place in pitching.  Even though we often talk about the 3 keys to successful pitching (location, change of speed and movement)  It’s nice to be able to blow it by a hitter every once in awhile.  For example, right after a great off speed pitch.

So question is, how do you generate more MPH?

There are several ways to add more velocity.  Today I will only talk about two of them because they can add several mph to your fastball when you do them correctly. [Read more...]

Do This and Add MPH!

Today I want to show you a must see video that will help you not only throw faster, but keep your arm healthy.

Here it is!

I hope you enjoyed the video and will begin working on generating more power with your legs and hips.  I also hope you learned how important it is to become an avid student of the game.

We encourage you to take every opportunity you can to learn more about how to throw properly; it can add years to your career.

If you enjoyed this video we encourage you to take advantage of today’s special offer!

I’m confident you’ll be pleased with the results you make with your mechanics.

Increase Velocity with Balance?

What most pitchers don’t understand is that they will throw faster when they are balanced.

Many pitchers try several things that they feel they will give them a few extra M.P.H.

Most are just old myths they are hearing from coaches or parents that played years ago and haven’t kept up with the science of throwing.

Apply what is in this video and see improvement in your pitching

You will want to check your emails This THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!  HUGE SAVINGS!

Pitching Mechanics: Throwing From The Windup

Can throwing from the windup give you more velocity?  Many pitchers feel a significant difference in velocity when they throw from the windup than from the stretch.  Is it psychological?

If you have been receiving these emails for awhile now you know that a lot of effort goes into throwing a baseball.  There are so many variables to your mechanics that can decrease or increase velocity.

Nolan Ryan once told Tom House (his pitching coach) that he is consistently clocked throwing 3 miles an hour faster when he lifts his leg up to his head as opposed to lifting it only up to his hip.  Typically, the higher the leg lift the longer the stride and the more momentum you will create toward your target.

So, yes!  To answer the question above, most pitchers can throw faster in the windup than from the stretch.  However, it’s not because a pitcher rocks back and forth more; it’s not because a pitcher is “swinging” raring back and firing as we hear many coaches say.

Take a look at our latest video about pitching from the windup.  We give you a ton of pointers about how to keep your balance so you can throw hard strikes.

If you haven’t picked up our pitching mechanics DVD yet now’s your chance.  This week it’s not that it’s just a bargain, it will give you the insight you need to take your game to a higher level.  You will know what to work on everyday to take you to that level.  This pitching mechanics DVD is part of our new series.  Have a great day!

How to throw faster!

How do I throw faster?  That is one of the most common questions we get asked. There are many things to do to help you throw faster and eating a lot of food to try and gain weight is not one of them.  Most pitchers are doing things that keep them from throwing harder; most of them involve poor pitching mechanics.

Conditioning, nutrition, genetics and your mental game also play a role in how fast you throw.  Yes, believe it or not, if you are not conditioned to throw the baseball you will have a hard time maintaining your balance throughout your delivery which makes it impossible to throw correctly.  Being fit to pitch, following a nutrition plan (which is linked to being fit to pitch) and focusing on your mental game directly effect how you will perform. They all affect your pitching mechanics one way or the other.  However, today I just want to focus on throwing faster when it comes to pitching mechanics alone.

Here is a list of questions you can ask yourself to ensure you aren’t cheating yourself out of a few miles an hour. [Read more...]

Pitching Tips From Justin Verlander

Pitching Tips From Justin Verlander

This last Sunday Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers picked up his 12th win of the season. He’s now sporting a 2.15 era and is one of the hottest starters in the league right now. I wanted to talk through his start and point out some of the reasons he’s having great success and what you can do to improve your own game.

Watch this clip a couple times. The first time through just watch how the batters are responding to his pitches. The second time through I want you to count how many full count strike outs he had. Once you’ve done this, read on below.

OK, here are the three things I want to point out that Verlander is doing extremely well. All of these are within your reach to learn as a pitcher, however, it will take some dedication on your part. [Read more...]

Misconceptions About Pitching Velocity

Misconceptions About Pitching Velocity

Where does pitching velocity come from?  Some may argue that velocity is genetic; I really believe there is some truth to that.  There are some genetic freaks in major league baseball that’s for sure.  Some say its about how strong a persons arm is. If you have been receiving these emails for awhile you know that’s not true.

One person told me today that a pitcher cannot throw faster by altering their mechanics.  What? That hit me hard because I have seen students gain 3 miles an hour in a matter of minutes because they were literally throwing all arm before; no legs or hips.

You can’t tell me that proper pitching mechanics don’t help create velocity! [Read more...]

Pitching Mechanics: Maximum Leverage and Velocity

Pitching Mechanics: Maximum Leverage and Velocity

Lately we’ve been talking a lot about how pitchers can generate more momentum to the plate creating more torque to increase pitching velocity.

Today I want to show you a brief pitching mechanics video of Matt Cain of the San Francisco Giants.  Matt, like many other pitchers at this level, creates a ton of torque utilizing his legs and hips correctly. I’m sure you have heard that you “throw with your legs” and that is certainly true.  Most power does come from your legs and total hip rotation.

Here is a perfect example of what I mean. [Read more...]
