There’s nothing like throwing a nasty off speed pitch that buckles a batter’s knees.

If you’ve seen a major league curveball, like Kershaw’s for example, you know that it’s next to impossible to hit. Even the greatest of MLB hitters struggle getting the bat near the ball.

Did you know most MLB hitters don’t work on hitting off speed pitches? They work on not missing a fastball opportunity.

Do you know why they don’t bother working on trying to hit a kershaw like curve? Because it’s unpredictable.

The only way to keep hitters off balance and upsetting their timing is through change of speed and movement. You’ve got to learn to be that unpredictable pitcher by throwing effective off speed pitches.

Here are a few tips that will help you throw better off speed pitches.

1. Never alter you pitching mechanics when throwing an off speed pitch; they are the same.

2. Keep your same arm slot regardless of what pitch you are throwing.

3. The only thing you change when throwing another pitch (aside from your grip) is the wrist and forearm angle at release of the pitch.

4. Don’t try to “force” the rotation of the ball by snapping your wrist or twisting it.

5. Don’t slow down your delivery when throwing a change up.

6. Throw your off speed pitches hard! Yes I said that right. Throw your off speed pitches hard… again, the only thing you are changing in your delivery is your wrist and forearm at release of each pitch. The harder you throw your curveball the faster the rotation, the later the movement of the pitch and the ball drops faster.

7. Don’t attempt throwing a 12-6 curveball. It doesn’t exist. No it doesn’t. 🙂 Most pitchers who attempt to throw the impossible 12-6 alter their arm slot raising their arm too high and snapping down on the ball.

If you are ready to throw a better curve, changeup, splitter, cutter or any off speed pitch; don’t miss out on my pitching grips and workouts DVD.
