I spend time weekly watching MLB swings. For the reason that I’m always looking for patterns between all types of hitters, and also to keep me sharp in recognizing parts of the baseball swing when I work with my own athletes.
Today I want you to join me in watching this short slow motion clip of the great Mickey Mantle.
Begin paying close attention at the eight second mark.
Look at how much his weight shifts forward! You can see this by watching his front hip move with his stride. When the front foot hits the ground however, he’s still got his weight centered in the middle-back position.
Why’ did he (and most all Major Leaguers today) do this? Plain and simple, it creates energy and power thrust into the baseball.
I’ve got a great drill that promotes this in my new online hitting drills module. It’s going to greatly help structure and improve your drill work time. And if you’re not working on skills during the season, get on it. Got to keep learning if you want to be good.
