I love Vladimir Guerrero’s play. I know he doesn’t have the most pretty baseball swing, but I’d take his aggressiveness on my team any day. His Rangers just slid the A’s today because of a walk off hit by Guerrero. When you take a look at the following clip, it’s not Guerrero’s hitting mechanics I want you to look at, it’s how many hits Guerrero had in the game coming into the final at bat.
Zero. 0-5.
So why write about Guerrero’s off day at the plate? Because his extra inning hit can be a lesson for you. I see kids all the time get down on themselves if they don’t get a hit in the first few at bats of the game. I say quit paying attention to your stupid stats and start focusing on how well you can keep yourself in the game. How well can you clear your mind between pitches and at bats? How well can you keep relaxed at the plate so your hitting mechanics stay fluid? Those are the things I think you should be concerned about. If you can do that, your stats will be right behind.
This is why I took time to write about Guerrero tonight. He’s got one mode of play… aggressive. I absolutely love that style of play.
